OpexDX Platform Overview: Our Approach to Industrial Software
A technical and business overview of the OpexDX platform: modular, deploy-anywhere industrial software designed by consultants who have run plants.
Our Approach to Industrial Software
Off-the-shelf industrial software has a familiar failure mode: it's built for a generic plant, and your plant isn't generic. Customisation turns into a multi-year integration project that nobody enjoys.
OpexDX is our answer. It's the industrial platform we built for our consulting clients: modular, deploy-anywhere, and designed by people who've actually run plants. This is a technical and business overview.
Design Principles
Three principles shape every module:
- Modular by default. Buy the CMMS now. Add the MES next year. Add the analytics layer when your data warrants it. No monolith commitments.
- Deploy anywhere. Cloud for the multi-tenant SaaS case. On-prem single binary for the regulated, air-gapped case. Same codebase, selected at deploy time.
- Built by practitioners. Every module was written to scratch an itch we hit on a real engagement. Nothing is theoretical.
The Modules
| Module | What it does |
| OpexMES | Manufacturing execution: production orders, quality, scheduling, live OEE. |
|---|---|
| Command Center | Executive KPI dashboards across plants and lines. |
| OpexFlow | Edge ingestion: Modbus, OPC-UA, MQTT, into your data platform. |
Each is independently sellable and deployable. Together, they form an integrated platform.
Deployment Modes
OpexDX runs in two modes from a single codebase:
- Standalone: each module as a self-contained monolith. Cloud (multi-tenant SaaS) or on-prem (single binary). No external dependencies.
- Platform: the full suite, integrated behind a gateway, with a shared event bus. For the customer who buys the whole package.
Mode is selected at deploy time via a single env var, not a fork. The same code builds and runs in either mode.
Why This Matters for You
Most industrial software vendors force one of two choices: a cheap-but-rigid SaaS, or a flexible-but-expensive enterprise suite. OpexDX's modular and dual-mode design means you can start small (one module, cloud, standalone) and grow into the full platform (all modules, on-prem, platform mode) without re-platforming.
The Relationship to Our Consulting
OpexDX isn't sold separately from our consulting work; it's the tool layer of an engagement. When we run a Lean SIRI assessment and build your roadmap, OpexDX is what we deploy when software is the right answer.
This is why it works: it was never built to be sold. It was built to be used.
